Dear Reader,
I have no idea how to kick off an authors blog. I suppose an introduction is in order? I’m Eden Astrophel. As of right now, I have only one novel to my pen name: Cheater Cheater Bunny Eater (click that link if you’d like to see my post about it).
I have a Bachelor’s in Business, ADHD, and an unhealthy obsession with books – all of which I find extremely helpful when it comes to writing. I believe in making use of your strengths- I think you should spend twice, if not three times, as much time polishing your strengths as you do your weaknesses- or, alternatively, work with your weaknesses to turn them into a strength. So, I’ve done just that.
I believe that directed effort and dedication matters more than talent- a lesson I’ve learned from having to deal with my ADHD. ADHD meds and I don’t get along, so I’ve had to turn that weakness into a strength. It turns out the reason ADHD’ers struggle is not a lack of attention, but an excess of it. It needs directing, otherwise, they’re constantly doing two things at once- which, of course, doesn’t get the best results. So, I studied up in how to direct my attention during what I think of as my ‘work’ hours (hint: it involves a lot of coffee and staring at the thing I need to work on for the twenty minutes it takes for coffee to kick in. Being bored is allowed, changing tabs or looking at my phone is not.)
I’m unapologetically Christian- my favorite verse right now (last two years) is “I say to you, Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” Matthew 5:44.
My favorite thing to write about is relationships- not romantic ones, but all relationships. Relationships between rivals, between friends, between lovers, between characters and their inner selves, between humans and humanity. Genre honestly comes secondary, although I do to be somewhat biased fantasy. I’m an avid reader, my record being as many as fifteen books in a week, though I’m more comfortable with 1-2 now that I’m writing all the time. I tend to rotate which genre I’m reading- which may not be the same genre as what I’m writing at the time.
I write with the intention of creating rich narratives that serve as metaphors, equipping my audience with new perspectives that can help them define and achieve success. I’m ambitious, and my ambition doesn’t end with just me- I want to bring others to the top with me.
My blog is likely going to be posted to often, but not consistently. I’ve proven time and again that I write about 1k words per hour- which is not particularly fast for the industry. I’m actively trying to write a novel every 30-90 days. My posts will be me sharing what I’m learning, offering behind the scenes looks at what I’m writing, and actual data from my journey. I’ll post when I need to keep up my daily writing habit but have hit a bit of a wall, or if I have something in particular to share.
I’m going to get back to writing now, but I’ll post as often as I have something relevant to share.
Love, Eden
